Richard Harrington, Business Minister and Conservative MP for Watford, has resigned over an amendment in Parliament on Brexit.
It is thought that Harrington voted in favour of supporting the Letwin amendment, which would allow Parliament to vote on so-called ‘indicative votes’, to allow MPs to vote on a series of different proposals for Brexit.
The Conservatives had whipped their MPs to vote against all amendments tonight, but the government was defeated by 27 votes on the Letwin amendment.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Harrington said that “I regret that the government’s approach to Brexit is playing roulette with the lives and livelihoods of the vast majority of people in this country.”
