The Liberal Democrats have won over a third of the vote in Watford in the European elections.

34.3 percent of voters in the town voted for the anti-Brexit party, who have both control of the council and the mayoralty.

The Brexit Party came a distant second with 27.2 percent, with Labour in 15.9 percent.

The Conservative Party, who hold the Watford constituency in Westminster, came fifth with 7.2 percent, behind the Green Party who won 9.4 percent of the vote.

In the East of England, voters overwhelmingly backed the Brexit Party, electing three of their MEPs.

The Liberal Democrats won two, the Greens won their first seat in the region, and the Conservatives held on to one seat.

Nationally, the Brexit Party have won the most seats and most votes, with the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party also making gains at the expense of the Conservatives and Labour.
